Vintage Paneled Thistle Delta Covered Butter Dish J.B. Higbee Pattern EAPG Clear Pressed Glass Floral Enamel

Beautiful vintage Paneled Thistle / Delta pattern covered butter dish, a classic Early American Pattern Glass design associated with the J.B. Higbee Glass Company.

This substantial two-piece covered dish features exceptionally detailed pressed glass with alternating crosshatched panels, radiating fan and leaf designs, a scalloped base, and a beautifully molded domed cover topped with a decorative starburst finial.

What makes this example especially attractive is the added floral enamel decoration around the dome. White flowers with soft yellow centers are accented by vivid cobalt-blue detailing, adding wonderful color to the otherwise clear pressed glass.

The pattern is also known to collectors as Paneled Thistle, Canadian Thistle, or Delta.

This example is unmarked, so while the pattern is associated with J.B. Higbee, no specific manufacturer is being guaranteed.

Bottom plate: 8 inches wide
Domed cover: 5 1/2 inches wide
Overall height assembled: 5 1/2 inches

Condition:

Very good antique condition overall. There is an approximately 1/2-inch shallow chip/flake along the side of the rim on the bottom dish, shown in the close-up photograph. Because of its location on the side of the lip, it is difficult to notice when the butter dish is assembled and does not affect display or use. There is also light shelf wear to the underside consistent with age and normal use. No cracks or repairs noted.
